Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Several videos of yours have saved my snowblower. You rock.
My starter is the same as in the video and is brand new, But it sat for a lot of years and the gear froze up on the shaft I have been puting wd40 on it but the shaft turns with the gear how can I get it loose with out damaging the shaft
THANKS! The stuck gear was the problem with my starter. It was a quick fix. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks, it only took me about 5 minutes and my starter works again!
You don't need to deal with live power to test the switch and wiring, just measure whether their is continuity between the plug on the switch housing and motor input wires and if there is, that the resistance is very low. Do this for both the AC hot and common wires and for safety's sake make sure the ground lead is good too.
i already loaded it up with that, but i can try again.
or spray liquid wrench or wd-40
i did this to my starter and it takes mltiple tries to get the gear to go UP and engage. should i soak it in used motor oil overnight?
Hi, My starter has the shaft that moves with the gear, people say the shaft is supposed to move up and down, ive soaked it in lube and it won't move up or down, please HELP!!!!
Thanks
I tried to upload a photo. What I need is a drive gear that is about 6 inch in Diameter, has 48 teeth and is about 0.5 inch thick. The material is fibrous plastic and some teeth got chewed up due to misalignment of the wheel shaft and the drive pinion. Let me know if you have a source. Thanks.
which exactly do u need?
Good luck. If you find the 48teeth drive gear let me know.
i'll check and see if i have a used one for the starter in this video, i am in canada too
I am in Canada and they are not so keen to help. I have tried my local small engine shops and they are not interested. They say the machine is too old and cannot get parts. Period. I will keep looking. Thanks.
a small engine shop should be able to get it for you
Donyboy
That is how I found the part I installed but I wanted to keep a spare. Thanks for the tip. I will keep looking.
You are doing us all a favour by teaching us this stuff. Saves money and keeps old equipment working instead of throwing it out. Sustainability is the name of the game and money in my pocket.
check ebay or a small engine shop
Thanks for putting this DIY info on Youtube. Keeps me from spending money in the shop. I have a 24 year old Sears 24 inch snowblower. I had to find a replacement gear drive wheel and it is not available from Sears but found one in a handyman shop. Any ideas of where to look for a spare. Also I am thinking of switching the drive to chain and sprocket.
Thanks for the tips.
thanks you just brought my free snowblower to life lol :)
