RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH MISS LUCY ANN POLK & HIS BROTHERS & SISTER ! Lucy Ann Polk (born May 16, 1928) is an American jazz and big band vocalist. Polk is perhaps best known for her period with Les Brown's orchestra in the mid-fifties, a time when the band was considered to be at its best, featuring such talents as tenor saxophonist Dave Pell and trumpeter Don Fagerquist . She also sang and recorded with several other bands, including Kay Kyser's and Tommy Dorsey's. Polk won the Downbeat "Best Girl-Singer with Band" award in 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 . You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on : http://www.myspace.com/swingcocktail ! Many thanks , NICKY .

Finding this video means more to me than anyone will ever know. To all who made this possible, I thank you with all of my heart. Gordon Polk was my father. He was the love of my life. He passed away just prior to my 4th birthday, and life has never been the same. To any and all "long lost relatives" (excluding my half sister Dany Carol... as she is NOT a blood relative of the Polks, nor a sister to me), I ask that you PLEASE contact me: dockenpolk@gmail.com
I am still the son of Vernon Charles Polk ....the good looking one on the guitar ...is my dad .....the other good looking one my uncle was my uncle Gordon the girls are Elva and Lucy Ann . They all went on to various careers in movies and music . I am very proud of my family and glad to see interest from others ....this tape was found only about 2 years ago and digitalized by a good friend
Great stuff. So very mid-40s. Did "The Four Polks" ever record anything? Lucy Ann, of course, is terrific.
hi ok the bass player is that gordon polk that sang with tommy dorsey ?& lucy sang with him too right
Thanks to lovemaegan, I found her grandmother and her siblings, not only are they beautiful but I love the song. I'm trying to make it my ringtone. And with all the comments on here, they should try to have a family reunion or something. They're all on here and Lucy Ann is still alive.
This is totally awesome!!!!
This is amazing! Elva Polk was my grandma {my dad's mom} but unfortunately passed away 2 years before I was born. I've never gotten to see anything but photographs of her. This is beyond!!!
{she married my grandpa & became a Shanahan}
Excellent sound. I'm a big fan of Lucy Ann Polk .... excellent song bird !
Thanks so much for sharing! My grandmother, Barbara Polk, used to tell me stories about her brother Charlie's four talented children, but I'd never seen any video. Great to put faces on the family history!
Lucy Ann has a Pepsodent smile, a beautiful one. I recently purchased her Easy Living LP on Interlude orange vinyl and just love it. A very underrated singer who I guess retired from the music business early. Thanks for posting this!
WOW! what a great find! My family has been looking for video we haven't seen, this is the only thing we have found in ages. I'm Gordon Polk's granddaughter. He passed away way before I was born, so its really cool to find video like this. Thanks for posting!
This video really made my day. Finally great to see the Lucy Ann on video. Thank you for sharing!
I finally found Lucy Ann . Unfortunately , it turns out , a non blood cousin , Danyel Carrol , took guardianship over Lucy Ann , when no-one was looking , her main interest probably being Lucy Ann's royalties . I called Danyel , and she forbid me to have contact with Lucy Ann , and sounded quite paranoid . Danyel's biggest prob with me , I guess , is she wanted to marry me , in '88 and I said no way ....then she stalked me for a year !!!!
harryoakley found this 16mm film of my dad , Vernon Polk , on guitar , his brother Gordon Polk , on bass , and my aunts , Elva and LucyAnn polk Pretty cute !!!! Thanks harry !!! Randy Polk
OK , this is great !!! Please , who posted this ? Openbaffle3 , right ? You did it ! the digitalizing of the film right ? Thanks so much , Randy Polk
This soundie is a greatest discovery for me. Lucy plays vibraphone amazingly well. Is she really playing? Anyway, thanks for posting!
