PORT HUDSON - The Port Hudson State Park Civil War Reenactment is an annual event that attracts visitors from across Louisiana to learn more about the siege of Port Hudson and the lives of people during that time. The reenactment draws in roughly 3,000 visitors and 500 reenactors over the weekend.
During the reenactment, visitors are able to tour living quarters, participate in civil war daily activities, and watch full scale battles. But these events would not be possible without reenactors, according to Captain Charles Tucker of the Tishimingo Avengers.
The reenactors volunteer their time to make the reenactment as authentic as possible to the 48 day siege of Port Hudson. Conditions for the besieged Confederates became so desperate that soldiers were forced to eat horses and rats, according to Michael Fraering director of the Port Hudson State Park.
Tucker said that although the reenactors don't eat rats, they do eat other small game such as squirrels and rabbits. They also sleep without shelter, wear wool clothing, and participate in mock battles.
Tucker said with this year being the 150th anniversary of the Civil War's beginning, the Port Hudson reenactment is a fun, educational experience that reminds both visitors and participants of the important role the Civil War had in our American History.

Still great video. And God bless the 10th Louisiana militia
I have a question. In the video you said that the 48 day siege was the longest in civil war history, but wasn't the siege of Petersburg (June 1864-March 1865) longer? Great video.
The dredded Yankee Kevlar uniforms!
Well, they're wool uniforms. It's probably not very pleasant. Then again, they don't look too uncomfortable, so I may be wrong.
Tomorrow I'm doing this
The beginning part would be so confusing to see if you didn't know what they were doing.
If you look very closy you will see that their reeanactors
I'm doing one this year and I'm on the union
NOT TOO MANY WIVES AT HOME WAITING FOR THEIR MEN!
I always though this would be fun to do BUT I do NOT like heat at all so, how bad does it get in those uniforms in the summer? just curios :D
its not a real war. There simply trying to have a good time and teach people about the history of America. What you went through in Vietnam was a mere walk in the park compared to the hell those who did fight in the civil war went through. Besides many reenactors are Deasrt Storm and Irag vets who have been shot at before. REMEMBER Vietnam was not the only war people had to suffer in.
way to go it is a good hobby to be in!
HOLD THE BRIDGE!
